How far are you from the beach?
(..or… “is there an ocean view?”) The beach is about 100 yards/meters from our driveway. There is no ocean view, however, the beach is so close you can hear it… it’s a one-minute stroll for most…

Once we’ve booked, is there anything else we need to do?
Yes. Print a hard copy of your 3-page confirmation email, read the Guest Agreement and these FAQs.

What is the cancellation policy?
With 8 weeks notice, you’ll receive a full refund minus a $50 cancellation fee; with less notice, we refund re-booked nights minus the $50 cancellation fee.

When are the check-in and out times?
Check-in time is 3:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. (Later arrivals, please ask for instructions.)
Check out by 10 a.m.

Can we check in earlier or depart later?
Yes, if our schedule allows it, we can adjust your arrival/departure time by an hour or two. If you have a “red eye” flight, ask ask about adding a “half-day” to your reservation.

Is this a good property for families?
We love kids, however, being that we’re a “quiet retreat”, Hale ‘Nalo is not well-suited for families. That being said, guests who book ZEN or both Garden Suites may add one child (10 or older) to their reservation; an “additional guest” fee will apply.

May we entertain?
We take seriously our promise to provide peace and quiet to all our guests, hence, visitors are discouraged. Understanding this, if you have a special situation requiring a brief visit, please let us know in advance, thank you.

Do you provide off-street parking?
Yes! We have off-street parking for one small car per suite. Large cars will need to use street parking.

How much privacy will we have?
Our suites afford visual privacy (see property map), however, the property is not sound proof. Snorers and frisky lovers… please be aware (and considerate) of your neighbors. (Sound travels!)

Are the gardens for everyone?
Yes. ZEN guests are welcome to enjoy the gardens and our gardeners will require daytime access as well. To our Garden Suite guests: please utilize your curtains for privacy as needed.

Is the neighborhood quiet?
Yes, however, people live and work here, so expect normal sounds like children playing or a lawn being mowed. (That being said, we hear mostly the lovely sounds of doves cooing and gentle surf.)

Are there restaurants and shops nearby?
Yes! We are walking distance to several good eateries: vegan, Mexican, local-style grinds, a good coffee cafe, and be sure to check out the Waimanalo Co-op for locally-grown produce and a fantastic deli, gifts and handicrafts (right next door to McDonald’s). Also nearby: 7-11 and Subway.

Is smoking permitted on the property?
Never inside, but if possible we’ll designate a smoking area on property. If not possible, we will ask smokers to exit the property to smoke.

Do you offer air conditioning?
Yes, in our Garden Suites. Our ZEN Treehouse, however, was designed with open gables allowing for natural trade wind ventilation.

What kind of housekeeping is available during our stay?
Fresh linens are offered to guests who stay 8 nights or more, however we are happy to supply fresh linens to any guest upon request; trash bags and paper supplies are also provided for your entire stay.

May we cook?
Yes! All our suites have spotless well-equipped kitchenettes with granite countertops, microwave, mini-fridge, toaster, coffee maker, bean grinder, induction cooktop, cookware, tableware & cutlery, and everyone has access to an outdoor grille.

What are the “taxes and fees”?
TAT/GET taxes amount to 13.96%; and a single cleaning fee is added to the room rate.

Is there anything I should know about the holidays?
Yes – book EARLY!

How and when do we pay?
A 50% deposit is required to book; the balance is charged at 8 weeks prior to arrival. Reservations made with arrival inside of 8 weeks are required to pay in full at booking. We prefer payment via Paypal, but also accept Visa, Mastercard, AmEx, Discover, JCB.

Are there pets at Hale ‘Nalo?
Yes. Our sweet dog Sophie loves making new friends with our guests!
