May we bring friends over to visit?
Sorry, but no. Hale 'Nalo is a quiet retreat destination where guests have exclusive use of the property. Bringing additional visitors, gatherings or entertaining, is not permitted.
What if we want privacy?
For utmost privacy, we recommend the ZEN Treehouse, as it shares no walls and occupies the entire second floor. Note: the Garden Suites share a wall which is not sound proof (refer Property Map).
How big are the rooms?
The Garden Suites are identical studio suites, mirror images, measuring 400 square feet. The ZEN Treehouse measures 900 square feet, including the east-west facing lanai's. We suggest prioritizing square footage when evaluating room size, as it is more accurate than photos.
Is the area and neighborhood quiet?
Yes (particularly compared to Waikiki) however, keep in mind, it is residential. People live and work here, so do expect normal sounds of life such as children playing or a lawn being mowed. (That being said, we hear mostly the lovely sounds of doves cooing and gentle surf.)
Are there restaurants and shops nearby?
Yes, we are walking distance to several good eateries, a convenience store, and a McDonald's; many more dining and shopping options are located in nearby Kailua and Hawaii Kai.
Is the beach "safe"?
Waimanalo Beach is considered a "safe" swimming beach, however, always exercise caution: know and respect your personal limits.
Do you offer monthly rentals (aka "Snow Bird" or "long-term")?
Monthly rates are sometimes available spring and fall; inquire at least 4 months ahead.
Is smoking permitted on the property?
No. We ask smokers to kindly exit to the edge of our property for the comfort of all. Do ask when you arrive, however, on the off-chance we can enable a smoking area.
Do you offer air conditioning?
No; instead, we've built our rentals using very effective earth-friendly options: air-drawing solar roof vents, full-ridge venting and open gables, ceiling and floor fans, shade trees and cross ventilation. (Tips: the ZEN Treehouse is the coolest suite; coolest months: Oct-June.)
Are there exceptions made to the 4-night minimum stay requirement?
Yes. Abuts: 2-3 night stays that abut an existing reservation are usually possible, please inquire with dates. Our reservation system will accept a 3 night gap booking; sometimes 2 night gaps. Stand alone short stays are available at a higher rate. Please inquire.

Yes! All our suites have spotless and well-equipped kitchenettes with granite countertops, microwave, mini-fridge, toaster, coffee maker, bean grinder, hot induction cooktop, cookware, tableware & cutlery, and everyone has access to an outdoor grille.
What are the "taxes and fees"?
State sales and hotel taxes (13.96%) and the cleaning fee are not included in the room rate. (Note: when we receive a reservation for the ZEN Treehouse, we must adjust the cleaning fee due to the double size of the suite. We apologize this is not currently automated.)

Yes. Book EARLY! Also, fyi: our office is closed 3 days a year: Christmas, Thanksgiving and New Years days, so plan to arrive before (or after) these three days.
