Immortalized in the 1925 Charlie Chan novel, House Without A Key is the Halekulani’s indoor/outdoor gathering place.
This is the Mother of all Tips: When in Waikiki, you have to experience the beauty and mystery of this establishment (a hotel on the “ewa”, or west end of Waikiki, where Lewers Street meets the ocean). Try to arrive (ahem, in the nicest cloths you have) around 5pm. Find your way to the “House Without A Key” and get seated poolside. Before your dinner, order one of their world famous Mai Tai and pupu (Hawaiian word for “appetizers”). If you time it right, uou will be treated to a hula performance that is, unbelievably, free of charge. Woot.
