Oahu has enough hiking trails to keep the most hard-core hiker blissed out for months on end. Two of our favorite waterfall hikes are to the Manoa Falls (this is where Steven Spielberg filmed many of the scenes in the movie ”The Lost World”) and the Maunawili Falls, both take you through beautiful rainforests where you will see giant ferns, cascading waterfalls, and tranquil streams, as well as unique plant and animal life that can only be found in these forests. Rare bird-watching opportunities abound.
Learn to surf! There are many good schools to choose from, the best are: Windward Watersports in Kailua, Hawaii Fire located in Honolulu (have a firefighter for an instructor), and Sunset Suzy’s Surf School, a terrific school on the North Shore.
Every winter, powerful swells cross thousands of miles of open ocean and descend upon the Hawaiian Islands, creating some of the biggest, most powerful and most challenging waves on the planet. Every November/December, the surfing world watches the best surfers compete for the crown, the Triple Crown of Surfing.
