Hike to a jungle waterfall, or a lighthouse, or up a volcano!

Oahu has enough hiking trails to keep the most hard-core hiker blissed out for months on end. Two of our favorite waterfall hikes are to the Manoa Falls (this is where Steven Spielberg filmed many of the scenes in the movie ”The Lost World”) and the Maunawili Falls, both take you through beautiful rainforests where you will see giant ferns, cascading waterfalls, and tranquil streams, as well as unique plant and animal life that can only be found in these forests. Rare bird-watching opportunities abound.

Other favorite hikes: the Makapu’u Lighthouse trailhead is just up the road a few minutes by car. It is a fabulous walk–short but steep!–on a paved trail with incredible views! Then there is the Diamond Head Crater Hike. There are just too many hikes to mention here, so check out this link for a comprehensive list. Tips: For jungle hiking, think: MUD and plan on shoes that will work in water. Also remember to pack water and bug spray!
